Overview

We are looking to appoint a new Rector for St Giles, Newcastle-under-Lyme and St Thomas, Butterton in Lichfield Diocese.

St Giles is the main church in the heart of the town centre of Newcastle built on an ancient site in the 1860s. St Thomas is a village church over 100 years old. A broad range of worship styles has been developed with more options in recent years for services throughout the week. A dedicated and experienced Ministry Team enables this. Communion based services on Sunday prevail with an All-Ages more informal well attended family service held once a month at St Giles.

Our aims are .. to learn about God; to demonstrate his love for us; to share our faith with others.

Introduction

St Giles' Church is in the centre of the Staffordshire market town of Newcastle-under- Lyme and St Thomas' Church is in the village of Butterton, three miles away.  Newcastle is home to Keele University and is immediately to the west of Stoke-on-Trent in North Staffordshire forming part of the Potteries conurbation.  The beautiful countryside of  Staffordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire, and Derbyshire is easily accessible.

The village of Butterton is about three miles away.

Ministry Team

The Ministry Team comprises of five persons - three men and two women, plus an incumbent. We have a part-time Children and Families` Worker who has been in post over two and a half years and we plan to extend her current three year contract in the summer.

Main Responsibilities

The new Rector will take the lead in the challenges and opportunities facing the church and as a parish priest taking us forward, having an understanding of the diverse needs of different age groups.

The Ideal Candidate

Our new Rector will

  • Have Sacrament and Scripture at the heart of their personal spirituality

  • Be dedicated to the pastoral needs of people
  • Be a team player who is comfortable working with a Covenanted Ministry Team
