Overview

PRIEST IN CHARGE

Benefices of Thornton Dale and Upper Derwent

We are seeking a parish priest for two combined benefices in the area between Pickering and Scarborough in the wonderful North Yorkshire countryside.

With a strong active Ministry team including Deacon and self-supporting Priest along with retired clergy we have a strong desire to minister within the community, our local CofE schools and growing our relationship with Wydale Hall, the Diocesan Retreat House situated in Upper Derwent.

Are you the priest who can join us and lead us in our life and mission?

Introduction

This is a combined appointment of the parish priest for two benefices in the area between Pickering and Scarborough.  This is part of a plan to develop ministry in the eastern part of Northern Ryedale deanery.  At the same time, we are appointing a priest to the adjacent Pickering Benefice. We would hope to explore the possibility of increasing co-operation between the clergy in these communities, to make the most of individuals' gifts and interests and moderating workloads.

We are seeking:

  • A prayerful priest from the central tradition of the church, faithful in the Ministry of the Word and Sacrament in its various forms.
  • A priest who lovingly supports the priestly ministry of the whole people of God.
  • A strong collaborative leader and team player
  • A priest with vision, empathy and humour.
  • A priest who is committed to developing lay ministry in all its forms and supportive of group ministry with neighbouring Benefices.
  • A priest who can help us foster existing links and partnerships with local community organisations
  • An excellent communicator, preacher and teacher with sound administrative skills
  • A priest who is keen to continue to build up a strong spiritual life for all and a determination to grow the church in numbers, mission and spirituality.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.

Unfortunately it is not always straightforward for clergy from overseas to be appointed to posts in the Church of England.  The policy of the UK Border Agency is that normally the organisation making an appointment has been able to prove that it is impossible to appoint a person who is a national of a European Economic Area country, before a visa giving permission to work will be issued to a person who comes from elsewhere.
