Introduction

Is God calling you to be the new Rector for the Benefice of Brompton with Osmotherley?

Are you a prayerful, collaborative priest with a heart for rural ministry and a desire to see God’s people flourish? The newly created Benefice of Brompton with Osmotherley — comprising the parishes of Brompton with Deighton, Welbury, East and West Rounton, Osmotherley, East Harlsey and Ingleby Arncliffe — is seeking its first Rector at an exciting moment of growth and renewal.

Situated among the striking landscape of North Yorkshire, this benefice brings together six distinct parishes, each with deep roots, dedicated congregations and rich local identities. Our churches span village centres, hamlets, and rural settlements, each with its own character, heritage and opportunities for mission. We are united by our shared vision and common desire to be welcoming, accessible and outward-looking.

As our first Rector, you will help shape the culture and direction of this new benefice underpinned by prayer and steady leadership. You will be well supported - by engaged PCCs, churchwardens, volunteers, an experienced House for Duty Associate Priest, and the wider Northern Ministry Enabling Team - for shared ministry, mutual resourcing and imaginative collaboration.

We are seeking a Rector who is:

  • rooted in prayer, scripture and the sacramental life of the church
  • a gifted preacher, able to nurture deeper confidence in faith and the bible
  • committed to spiritual growth across all ages
  • approachable, outward-facing and visible within village life
  • encouraging of lay ministry, recognising and releasing other gifts
  • a team player, able to work with the House for Duty Priest and clergy colleagues
  • committed to fostering unity, whilst respecting the individuality of each parish
  • able to engage confidently with financial realities

If you feel called to rural parish ministry, enjoy building relationships, and are excited by the chance to guide a benefice at a formative moment, we would love to hear from you. Join us as we seek to grow in faith, deepen our mission, and serve our villages with the hope and love of Christ.

About Us

The Diocese of York, led and guided by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, takes in much of North and East Yorkshire. As the largest diocese in England, geographically, the area is very diverse, featuring a multitude of needs and opportunities. This includes the bustling urban centres of York, Hull and Middlesbrough, the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and the incomparable Yorkshire Coast; as well as areas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastal communities.

Our mission and ministry relies on thousands of people – lay and ordained, volunteer and paid. Our diocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission and ministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of church buildings, and safeguarding. Together, we are striving to be a people who are ‘Living Christ’s Story’. We want to be a simpler, bolder, humbler church which in its diversity reflects the communities it serves. We are bringing renewed focus and fresh energy to achieving our aims:

  • Becoming more like Christ
  • Reaching those we currently don’t
  • Growing in discipleship, influence and numbers
  • Transforming our finances and structures
