Introduction

The Bishop of Southwark wishes to appoint a

Associate Pioneer Vicar of Springfield Church, Wallington

Called to lead, pioneer and equip others?

We are looking for a compassionate, courageous and creative ordained Associate Pioneer Vicar to join Springfield Church, Wallington. This is an exciting opportunity to help establish and lead a new worshipping community within our estate context, equip and develop lay leaders, and support estate partner churches to grow pioneering communities through our SPRING programme.

This part-time (0.5) role is ideal for someone who carries both the heart of a pastor and the instinct of a pioneer — someone who is prayerful, grounded in Scripture and the life of the Church, and able to lead in uncertain and evolving contexts. You will join a dynamic and supportive team at a significant moment in our pioneering journey, helping shape both the culture and future of this work.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a priest of associate or incumbent status in the Church of England
  • Has a vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus, rooted in prayer, Scripture and the life of the Church
  • Has experience of pioneering ministry or fresh expressions of church
  • Has experience of preaching and pastoral ministry
  • Can lead and establish new worshipping communities
  • Has a heart for estate communities and a passion for helping people encounter Jesus in accessible and transformative ways
  • Is able to train, develop, equip and release lay leaders and emerging pioneers locally and across South London
  • Communicates effectively with people who may have little or no church background
  • Can build confidence in others, releasing responsibility with high accountability and low control
  • Is able to support the Pioneer Vicar with humility, initiative and a collaborative spirit
  • Embodies inclusion in their ministry and working practices, creating environments where people feel trusted, valued and able to belong
  • Is adaptable, curious and resilient, with the emotional maturity to lead well in uncertain and evolving contexts
