Make a Meaningful Difference

Are you a highly organised, analytical and confident professional who thrives in a role that combines coordination, insight, problem-solving and purpose?

The Portsmouth Diocesan Safeguarding Team is seeking a Safeguarding Senior Coordinator to play a pivotal role in supporting and strengthening safeguarding practice across the Diocese.

This is not simply an administrative role. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of complex processes, manage competing priorities, analyse information, produce meaningful reports and insights, and work confidently with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be a trusted member of the safeguarding team, helping to ensure that safeguarding activity is well coordinated, compliant, evidence-informed and effective.

About the Role

Working closely with senior safeguarding professionals, you will:

  • Coordinate complex safeguarding casework and operational processes.
  • Monitor safeguarding activity and performance.
  • Analyse data, identify trends and produce reports and management information.
  • Support compliance, quality assurance and governance activities.
  • Coordinate safeguarding training and events.
  • Develop and maintain effective systems, records and procedures.
  • Draft communications, briefings and updates for a range of audiences.
  • Help drive continuous improvement across safeguarding services.

This role offers significant autonomy and responsibility and would suit someone who enjoys bringing structure, insight and professionalism to complex and sensitive work.

About You

We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate:

  • Experience coordinating complex operational, compliance, governance or safeguarding processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to interpret data and produce clear reports and insights.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Confidence working independently and using sound judgement.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and record management skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Professionalism, resilience and discretion when dealing with sensitive information.

Experience within safeguarding, compliance, governance, public sector, charity, healthcare, education or similar environments would be advantageous.

A Role with Purpose

Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine contribution to the safety and wellbeing of children, vulnerable individuals and communities across the Diocese while working as part of a dedicated and supportive professional team.

Wellbeing and Resilience

Due to the nature of safeguarding work, the postholder will regularly encounter sensitive, complex and potentially distressing information relating to children and adults at risk. Applicants should be able to demonstrate emotional resilience, maintain professional boundaries, and work effectively in an environment where difficult and challenging matters are routinely discussed. Appropriate support and supervision will be provided.

Why Join Us?

  • Meaningful and rewarding work.
  • Supportive and professional team environment.
  • Hybrid working opportunities.
  • Opportunity to influence and improve safeguarding practice.
  • A role offering autonomy, responsibility and professional development.

Help us create safer communities across the Diocese. We would love to hear from you; email louise.gifford@portsmouth.anglican.org if you have any questions.  Please read the full Job Description for full details.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), Safeguarding and Safer Recruitment

The Portsmouth Diocesan Board of Finance is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As part of our safer recruitment practices, all appointments are subject to appropriate pre-employment checks, which may include an Enhanced DBS check, verification of identity, right to work, qualifications, employment history and satisfactory references.

We recognise that candidates may choose to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to support the preparation of their application. While this is acceptable, applications must accurately reflect the applicant's own skills, knowledge, experience and suitability for the role. Candidates should be prepared to discuss all aspects of their application in detail during the selection process and demonstrate their competencies personally. Any application found to significantly misrepresent an individual's experience, qualifications or abilities may be withdrawn from the recruitment process.

As this role supports safeguarding activity, the successful candidate will work with sensitive and potentially distressing information relating to children and adults at risk. We are therefore seeking individuals who can demonstrate professionalism, integrity, sound judgement, emotional resilience and a clear commitment to safeguarding and maintaining the highest professional standards.
