Overview

Rural ministry – catholic tradition:  the Parish of Broughton, Marton and Thornton is set in beautiful countryside, just south of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and west of Skipton. This is a genuinely rural setting, with good schools, markets and transport links nearby.  It includes three churches, which maintain a rich liturgical tradition, serving one village and four hamlets, including a primary school. The benefice has pastoral and sacramental oversight from the Bishop of Wakefield, and is seeking a priest of the Society of St Wilfrid and St Hilda. Their new priest will believe, live out and teach the faith of the Church, will be rooted and grounded in scripture as expressed in the creeds and will have the Eucharist lie at the heart of his priestly life. They are looking for him not only to enable his congregation to grow in its own life of spirituality, prayer and understanding of faith, but also to reach out to the local community and actively welcome and encourage others on their journey towards God. There is an excellent modern rectory. Christ Church, Oxford is joint patron, and supports the incumbent through the Dr South Trust.  This is a 0.5 FTE post.

Introduction

The Benefice requires someone:

• To be the Rector of the parish, having regard to the calling and responsibilities of the clergy as described in the Canons, the Ordinal, the Code of Professional Conduct for the Clergy and other relevant legislation.
• To develop the ministry of the laity, through training, delegation, encouragement and support so that they have greater involvement in the mission and ministry of this parish. 
• To ensure that a high standard of worship, preaching and pastoral care is provided so that people are more able to live and grow as disciples of Christ.
• To seek ecumenical cooperation wherever possible.
• To gain a good working understanding of the Diocese and the support it provides.
• To encourage Christian stewardship of people's time, money and abilities so that the ministry of the church is strengthened and enabled.

Leadership 

• Providing spiritual teaching, challenge and inspiration
• In providing leadership, you can work collaboratively to develop the mission of the church, engaging with the ideas and  concerns of others and delegate effectively and share ministry with clergy and lay colleagues

Pastoral working

• Engaging with and providing pastoral care for people of all ages
• Building links with people who are not churchgoers
• Motivating and enabling others to discover and use their gifts

• Puts prayer at the centre of your own life and that of the church

About us

The Diocese of Leeds comprises five Episcopal Areas, each coterminous with an Archdeaconry. This is now one of the largest dioceses in the country and its creation is unprecedented in the history of the Church of England. It covers an area of around 2,425 square miles, and a population of around 2,642,400 people.

The three former dioceses were created in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to cater for massive population changes brought about by industrialisation and, later, mass immigration. The Diocesan Bishop (The Rt Rev’d Nick Baines) is assisted by five Area Bishops (Bradford, Huddersfield, Kirkstall, Wakefield and Ripon) and five archdeacons (Bradford, Halifax, Leeds, Pontefract, Richmond & Craven).  The Bishop of Ripon is the Rt Rev’d Dr Helen-Ann Hartley.
