Overview

In the heart of Slough town, St Paul's is a Bible-based and Christ-centred intercultural worshiping community within the Church of England and Global Anglican Communion.  St Paul's was recently designated as a resource hub and has received SDF funding.  We therefore seek to appoint an Associate Vicar to collaborate with the Incumbent

  • in growing the Church to its full potential through discipleship, training, and outreach
  • to share our experiences and knowledge of intercultural mission and ministry in the Burnham and Slough Deanery and wider Diocese of Oxford by mentoring other churches, developing resources
  • to set up an Intercultural Mission and Ministry Greenhouse.

Introduction

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  1. Growing the breadth and depth of the Church
  2. Directing the evangelistic and social outreach programme
  3. Coordinating intentional discipleship in pastorates (homegroups)
  4. Developing intercultural mission and ministry training in the Deanery and Diocese.

 The ideal person would be one with a strong passion for intercultural mission and ministry.

The Ideal Candidate

Personal attributes should include:

  • Willingness both to take responsibility and be part of a team under the Incumbent.
  • Spiritually mature, with a deep relationship with God through His Word, prayer, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
  • Able to work well with a broad and diverse range of people and contexts and facilitate conversations with and between various cultural and ethnic groups.
  • Able to see where God is at work and collaborate with others within the Parish, Deanery, and Diocese, especially as part of an Intercultural Ministry Resourcing Hub and Greenhouse.

Skills and competencies should include:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good IT skills for general office work
  •  Awareness of the effect of unconscious bias on yourself and others
  • Ability to work within national and diocesan safeguarding requirements and to undertake safeguarding training when required

Education, qualifications, and experience

  • Educated to at least degree level.
  • Ordained Priest in the Anglican Communion
  • Active engagement with an intercultural worshipping community.
  • At least three years of working experience in parish ministry.

  • Pastoral heart and aptitude to be with people appropriately from a wide range of class, race, and religious backgrounds.
  • Understanding of mission and ministry in an interfaith context
