Overview

West Hereford Team - Team Vicar

The West Hereford Team has a population of approximately 14,000 people and reaches out from the historic centre of Hereford to the rural western edge of the city. It encompasses the four parishes of All Saints in the city centre, St Nicholas’ alongside Greyfriars Bridge over the Wye, Holy Trinity at Whitecross and St Michael’s in the riverside village of Breinton.

The Team churches are distinctive in their expressions of worship, faith in action and community life. We aim to work together, whilst also honouring the individual traditions of the four churches.

Introduction

We are looking for a Priest colleague who has

  • a focus on pioneering creative outreach
  • a living faith and a passion for creative mission
  • a proven track record of innovative community outreach
  • an ability to discern and grow the gifts and talents of others

Main Responsibilities

We hope to find a new Team Vicar of the West Hereford Team, with special responsibility for All Saints and St Nicholas, (shared with the Team Rector), but who will work across the Team to inspire us to be creative in our mission and ministry, challenging us to think beyond what is already happening in order to more fully share the good news of Jesus with those around us, and being visionary in how we use the resources we have, and could have.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Qualities

  • a living faith and a passion for creative mission
  • experience and a proven track record of creative community outreach, and building links with individuals and community organisations
  • an ability to both honour the existing traditions whilst growing the worshipping community in new ways.

Desirable Qualities

  • experience of developing disciples and encouraging a mature faith in others
  • the ability to visualise and communicate creative ways of using our church buildings and experience of re-ordering projects
  • ability to discern and grow the gifts and talents of others.

About us

We are four churches in different settings from city centre to rural village each with a tradition of creativity, which we would like to reignite and further develop as a focus for mission.

The Team churches are distinctive in their expressions of worship, faith in action and community life. We aim to work together, whilst also honouring the individual traditions of the four churches.

How are we already sharing faith through creativity? Exhibitions, music performances and visiting artists, pop up nativities, Passion plays, Open the Book, flower festivals, ceilidhs, working with schools, artwork and food, Minecraft Church, Active Church, and Outdoor Church.

How would we like this ministry to develop in order to establish All Saints and St Nicholas as creative hubs, and build on the creativity in Holy Trinity and St Michael’s? We have some ideas, but we really want to hear how you would develop this ministry.
