Overview

The Diocese of London comprises of c400 parishes north of the River Thames and within the M25 motorway. The Church of England in London is vibrant, growing and is at the heart of communities throughout the city. The purpose of the London Diocesan Fund is to support this work, seeking to use our resources to facilitate the ministry of our parishes and chaplains who seek to serve four million people.

Introduction

This administrative post is to support the work of training and development for clergy and lay ministers in the Diocese of London, assisting the Director of Ministry and the Ministry Team in their work.

Main Responsibilities

 

  1. Assistance for the Ministry Team with the implementation of the vision for clergy and lay training, support, and development in the diocese, with particular reference to the Diocesan 2030 Vision.
  2. Support for the administrative work relating to the processing of candidates for ordained ministry.
  3. Coordination of the annual Diocesan Continuing Ministerial Development (CMD) programme for clergy including study days, residentials and special events for specific groups e.g., Licensed Lay Ministers, Self-Supporting Ministers, etc.
  4. Organisation and assistance with courses, conferences, and training events, both in person and online. This will include taking bookings, booking venues, speakers, liaising with other bodies and confirming requirements and logistics, ensuring courses attended are entered against clergy names on the database. Gathering and analysing feedback on events to assist in future course development using (for example) SurveyMonkey.
  5. Producing and disseminating publicity via mail chimp, through Episcopal Areas, via website, and when required in printed form, including the Post Ordination Training (POT) booklet.
  6. Organising additional training courses to meet new needs and initiatives, using Eventbrite to gather and monitor bookings.
  7. Assisting with logistics and refreshments for events at Diocesan House, St Mellitus College and other venues.
  8. Administrative support relating to the discernment, training and development of Licensed Lay Ministers.
  9. Administrative support for the work of the St Edmund’s Courses www.london.anglican.org/st-edmunds-courses/ and the course co-ordinator. (This aspect of the work is anticipated to take up to one day per week).
  10. Liaising with the Communications department to ensure up to date content on the Ministry webpages.
  11. Gathering and updating statistical analysis related to ministry in the diocese.
  12. Servicing Ministry Officers meetings, including taking notes.
  13. Administrative support to ensure best practice with regards to Ministerial Development Review across the Diocese.
  14. Processing invoices and budgetary information.
  15. Liaising with Episcopal Area Staff and LDF Staff as appropriate to the above.
  16. Assisting the Director of Ministry and members of the Ministry Team in the day-to-day discharge of their responsibilities.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential skills & aptitudes

  • Strong administrative efficiency, especially in diary, meetings and events management, scheduling, and prioritising of tasks.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly over a wide range of tasks.
  • A self-starter, good at taking the initiative.
  • An eye for detail and an ability to anticipate what needs to be done.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
  • Good listening, communication and writing skills.

Desirable skills

  • Familiarity with Eventbrite, SurveyMonkey, Dropbox, Twitter, Teams and Zoom.
  • Website content management experience; WordPress particularly useful.
  • Database management.
