Introduction

We are looking for an experienced priest who will be confident in enabling the changes that are needed to see this vision in the Probus Mission Area become a reality.
They will need the requisite gifts and graces to invest in others, able to operate as overseer as well as hold fast to their priestly calling.
The deanery and its parishes are trusting God for the appointment of the right person for this next exciting chapter of faith and flourishing, worship and witness.

We embrace the diversity of our parishes and work together in all aspects of church life, inspired by the gospel and our rich spiritual heritage to meet the challenges of the present and to offer a vision of hope for the future.

On the Way
At the start of 2022, our deanery (Powder) undertook a root and branch review of all ministry across our deanery. Under the overarching vision of The Saints’ Way, we sought to establish new patterns for church life and ministry that would lead to both sustainability and fruitfulness.
Powder Deanery was grouped into three Mission Areas: Truro, Probus and the Roseland. An ‘On The Way’ team for each Mission Area was established. These teams conducted an
analysis of the current patterns of church life and ministry.
They heard from church members as well as local residents, community groups, schools, commerce, etc, etc. This work led to a new deanery plan being built.  The deanery plan was widely shared, refined and finally voted for at a meeting of Deanery Synod in June 2022.  The plan received 92% positive support, an overwhelming endorsement, both of the plan and the potential within the plan, to change the shape of ministry in our churches. This is the beginning of an exciting new future for the growth of the church in the Probus area.
The appointment of this full-time stipendiary post, Priest in Charge with with oversight Responsibility of the Probus Mission Area, is one of the key planks in the deanery plan. This post is an important next step in bringing the plan to fruition.

Working as one Mission Area - Pastoral Reorganisation
In addition to the work of Local Ministers in bringing fruitfulness in local churches, we have a greater ambition for new ways of working across the Mission Area. It is intended that our team of ministers will increasingly work together in joint mission.
To enable us to bring the Probus Mission Area together, the ‘On The Way’ plan includes a scheme for pastoral reorganisation. We will be bringing together the existing Probus Team with Tresillian and Lamorran-w-Merther and with St Michael Penkivel. Work has already begun on the scheme and the appointment is being made with the full expectation of this scheme coming into place.

Support from the Deanery - Deanery Leadership Team
We are excited about the plans that are being developed and we know we need to support them from across the deanery.  As part of the On The Way planning process, a new Deanery Implementation Team has been formed. This incudes the Rural Dean (Revd Marc Baker) as chair, a new lay chair, secretary and treasurer. The Deanery Implementation Team also has a representative from each Mission Area as part of the Team.
This new Leadership Team has been built specifically to support each Mission Area in delivering on their part of the ‘On The Way’ plan. There would be an open invitation for this
new minister to be a part of this team if they wished.

Support and Wellbeing
This mission area team recognises that this and most clergy roles are demanding. Providing support and caring for your wellbeing is important to us. There is a commitment at senior level and the organisation generally to:
  • ensure that, at a strategic level, clergy wellbeing is explicitly referenced, and embedded in, all projects and work;
  • it is adequately resourced and funded; and
  • that we champion clergy wellbeing, challenge unsupportive behaviours and attitudes, and lead by example.
Training
Accompanied Ministry Development Programme for Ministers with Oversight Responsibility
The programme is a series of six, two-day, residential colleges held over approximately 12 months, interspersed by Action Learning Sets/Reflective Practice Groups.
Much of the input for the colleges will be provided by CPAS who have developed a programme for Oversight Ministers. The colleges are supported by a diocesan based Facilitator, Chaplains and Reflective Practice/Action Learning Group Facilitators. Cohorts will usually have 12 participants from across the diocese.

If this is you, we would love to meet you!
