Introduction

The Bishop of St Albans and The Crown as Patron for the Benefice, are seeking a new Rector for the Benefice of Ampthill with Steppingley and Millbrook.

The benefice is situated in central Bedfordshire, in a semi-rural location. Ampthill in particular is a growing town with the addition of a lot of new housing, and is a thriving market town. All three churches have different traditions and are supported by Lay Readers and volunteers. The area boasts good access to London and major transport links, as well as access to the countryside.

Mission, centered on Ampthill, offers exciting opportunities to engage in all levels of town life, as well as bringing growth to each of the three different churches. You will need a vision of the church that is inclusive, engaged and missional, that provides a prayerful heart to these communities. There is much to build on, but much to develop and renew.

Benefice Priorities
Going deeper into God – To increase opportunities for spiritual development within the core church and wider community.
Making new disciples – To enable people in the surrounding community to feel part of the Church by making ourselves, our buildings and our services accessible to all.
Transforming communities - To strengthen the link between our churches and the communities they serve.

The New Rector will:
  • be an energetic and visible leader with the ability to inspire, challenge and encourage
  • share in our commitment to nurture unity and communication across the benefice
  • lead worship in an enthusiastic and engaging style
  • embrace the challenges of two small rural churches, alongside a larger church with civic involvement and a leading role in a burgeoning market town
  • be resilient, pastoral and have a good sense of humour
  • will lead people in the growing life of prayer
  • be able to relate to all ages and build on links with local schools and the wider community
