Introduction

Is God calling you to serve our delightful rural communities in the south western corner of the picturesque North York Moors?

This attractive role offers opportunity to minister with creativity and car across five small rural communities who come together every Sunday for a single service which rotates around the four church buildings.

Working alongside an Interim Priest in Charge who holds, in plurality, responsibility for Upper Ryedale alongside the nearby market town of Helmsley you will be offered support and colleagueship alongside freedom to lead and serve.  A Children and Youth Worker and two associate priests join in an outward focused ministry team which is ecumenical in nature, enjoying a close and developed partnership with Ryedale Methodist Circuit.

This is a post for a priest who is prayerful and collaborative, a pastor who enables others in ministry and inspires the whole Church to invite all in our communities to join in the story and know the hope and life of Jesus Christ.

We are seeking someone who is:

  • A priest of the Church of England with a passion to make a difference and a desire to work within and for our rural and farming communities.
  • Enhanced DBS checked and and an up-to-date working knowledge of the requirements of the Church of England Core and Additional Learning Pathways and Parish Safeguarding Handbook.
  • IT literate with sufficient skills and a willingness to learn and develop these further with an understanding and awareness about the benefits and challenges of social media.
  • Able to show evidence of working in a Church of England parish ministry, and of preaching styles that engage with people of varying age, understanding and outlook.
  • Able to reach out beyond church to the wider community
  • Secure in their personal Christian faith with confidence to be a Christian leader.
  • A good listener and communicator
  • Empathetic and able to help, bring comfort and reassurance to those in need
  • Able to travel among the parishes

About Us

The Diocese of York, led and guided by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, takes in much of North and East Yorkshire. As the largest diocese in England, geographically, the area is very diverse, featuring a multitude of needs and opportunities. This includes the bustling urban centres of York, Hull and Middlesbrough, the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and the incomparable Yorkshire Coast; as well as areas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastal communities.

Our mission and ministry relies on thousands of people – lay and ordained, volunteer and paid. Our diocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission and ministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of church buildings, and safeguarding. Together, we are striving to be a people who are ‘Living Christ’s Story’. We want to be a simpler, bolder, humbler church which in its diversity reflects the communities it serves. We are bringing renewed focus and fresh energy to achieving our aims:

  • Becoming more like Christ
  • Reaching those we currently don’t
  • Growing in discipleship, influence and numbers
  • Transforming our finances and structures
