Introduction

‘Growing a visible presence of God’s love and welcome at the heart of our Benefice.’ is our aim across the parishes of Malton and Old Malton. Our Churches come from quite different liturgical traditions and, together with our Fresh Expression of Church, in the form of ‘OMG Malton’, we offer a wide choice of services to suit everyone.

Are you being called to be our new priest?

We are excited to further God’s vision for our parishes, enabling us to grow in faith and in numbers. We are eager to deepen our understanding of what it means to Live Christ’s Story in our benefice and how, as a community, we can follow the example of Jesus and share His love with others. We are seeking the right leader to take us on that journey.

Close to the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park and The Howardian Hills National Landscape, Malton is a busy market town, situated between the historic city of York to the west and the east coast resorts. It is well served by road via the A64 and rail from Malton station. Malton has a reputation as Yorkshire’s Food Capital and hosts monthly food markets and annual Food Lovers Festival, with its wide variety of independent shops and eateries.

We are friendly, welcoming Christian community who’s church doors are always open to visitors and our communities and we:

  • value the sacraments highly and see Eucharist and Baptism as the foundations of our lives
  • are blessed with a talented team of voluntary worship leaders
  • are churches with a strong choral tradition and both have a robed choir
  • offer dedicated teams of volunteers who are developing the ministry to families, via baptism, family services and links with local schools.
  • have supportive PCCs and an active group of volunteers who take on a wide range of both practical and organisational roles
  • are both Fair Trade Churches, committed to social justice and the environment and socially engaged with local issues.
  • value hospitality and fellowship, with plenty of fun and laughter and offer a wide range of social events and outreach opportunities
  • aim to explore ways to sustain the work that OMG Malton has built up
  • aim to deepen our spirituality, by exploring patterns of prayer and bible study and offering a place of prayer, spirituality and community the monastic Gilbertine Priory was built upon

Does this inspire you? Is God calling you to be our new priest?

We are look for someone who:

  • Is a strong communicator - Someone who can interact well with young and old alike and is a visible presence out in the community, joining us to share God’s message.
  • Is a strong leader - Someone who can identify, develop and support the significant strengths that exist across the benefice. Our future priest should be inspirational, whilst supporting and valuing the work of both PCCs and OMG (Malton).
  • Has empathy - Someone with an open mind to celebrate the differences, strengths and opportunities that exist in our complimentary worshipping communities, and able to identify ways for us to continue growing together as a benefice.
  • Is a good collaborator - Someone who can work with others to enhance the strong links that exist locally. This includes other Church of England benefices, other denominations, wider community agencies and schools.
  • Has drive - Someone with the vision and enthusiasm to take us forward and to challenge us to go further in our relationship with God.

This post is a ‘Priest-in-Charge’ appointment as we are in the process of replacing the current house for a more modern and easier to maintain property.  More information on this will be available at the interview.

The Diocese of York

The Diocese of York, led and guided by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, takes in much of North and East Yorkshire. As the largest diocese in England, geographically, the area is very diverse, featuring a multitude of needs and opportunities. This includes the bustling urban centres of York, Hull and Middlesbrough, the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and the incomparable Yorkshire Coast; as well as areas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastal communities.

Our mission and ministry relies on thousands of people - lay and ordained, volunteer and paid. Our diocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission and ministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of church buildings, and safeguarding. Together, we are striving to be a people who are ‘Living Christ’s Story’. We want to be a simpler, bolder, humbler church which in its diversity reflects the communities it serves. We are bringing renewed focus and fresh energy to achieving our aims:

  • Becoming more like Christ
  • Reaching those we currently don't
  • Growing in discipleship, influence and numbers
  • Transforming our finances and structures

Our approach is aligned with a commitment to the best of our parochial inheritance and to the poorest communities, and to the financial realities we face.

Under current immigration rules, it is not generally possible for us to appoint clergy who are not already eligible to work in the UK.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.
