Vicar of Accrington St John with Huncoat St Augustine
Vacancy Reference cofe/TP/70992/9059
Introduction
We are seeking a warm, visionary, and prayerful priest to lead our vibrant and welcoming parish into its next chapter. This full-time post offers the opportunity to serve two historic churches in a diverse and evolving community, with strong links to local schools and a modern vicarage in the heart of Huncoat village.
The parish spans the heart of Accrington and the village of Huncoat in the borough of Hyndburn. It is a place of rich heritage and strong community spirit, but also faces real challenges including economic hardship, social isolation, and generational disengagement. We are committed to being a visible, compassionate, and hopeful presence in this context. With new housing developments planned in Huncoat and strong transport links, there is great potential for growth and outreach. We are praying for a priest who will embrace this opportunity to help shape a flourishing future for our churches and community.
Our Vision
By 2030, we hope to be:
“A church family in Accrington and Huncoat of all ages and all backgrounds, joyfully worshipping and serving God.”
We are looking for a priest who will:
- Be a follower of Jesus, rooted in prayer and open to the Holy Spirit.
- Inspire and nurture discipleship across all ages, especially children and young people.
- Embrace both traditional and contemporary worship styles.
- Lead with warmth, humour, and approachability.
- Engage actively with our schools, families, and wider community.
- Be confident in using digital tools and social media for outreach.
- Work collaboratively with lay leaders and volunteers.
- Help us grow in faith, number, and outreach.
