Introduction

Overview

The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) is seeking applications for the role of part-time Centre Manager to be based at our Seafarers’ Centre at South Tees. We have recently appointed a regional Chaplain to lead our mission in the North East and this is an exciting and broad-ranging opportunity to be part of our important work.

About Us

Founded in 1856, the purpose of The Mission to Seafarers is to share God’s love and grace with seafarers by caring for them in the many difficult and challenging circumstances they encounter. Our ministry is wide ranging and holistic with an emphasis on compassionate, practical action and an absolute commitment to working with those of all faiths and nationalities, always with the deepest sensitivity and respect. We currently have a presence in over 200 ports in 50 countries.

Main Responsibilities

You will work with the regional Chaplain Team Lead to provide a range of welfare services that promote social, physical, spiritual and mental well-being, including undertaking some ship visiting; be responsible for the effective running of The Mission to Seafarers’ Centre in accordance with health, safety, environmental and security legislation, and local requirements; will provide oversight and leadership to a team of volunteers; and will work in collaboration with colleagues from other maritime missions, including Stella Maris.

The Ideal Candidate

Candidates should have experience in any of the following: Centre Management, Health & Safety, Business and Administration, Accountancy, Project Management and Business Development. You should have an organised and methodical approach to your work with strong numeracy and literacy skills. Candidates should have good interpersonal skills, have a compassionate concern for the wellbeing of others and be collaborative and inclusive. You must be able to work under own initiative and unsupervised; be flexible in your approach; demonstrate sound judgement and emotional intelligence; be culturally and politically aware; and be able to remain calm and measured in challenging situations.

This is a part-time post. MtS is an Anglican Mission, but this post is open to all applicants who have empathy with MtS’s Anglican roots and with the work and charitable purpose of our work.
