House for Duty Rector for the Benefice of Easington with Liverton
Vacancy Reference cofe/TP/117251/9329
Introduction
Is God calling you to be the new House for Duty Rector for the benefice of Easington with Liverton?
Easington, Liverton and Liverton Mines are communities which will respond to knowing loving and caring leadership with grace and support. The benefice is made up of three villages and two churches within two parishes: All Saints Church, in Easington and St Michael’s Church in Liverton. We are based in a beautiful and historic area close to the coast and moors; parts of the North York Moors find their home in our parishes. We are also closely linked with the proud industrial heritage of Teesside made famous by explorer James Cook as well as more recent potash and polyhalite mining.
Please note, the post is currently vacant so we would welcome expressions of interest at any time and would consider an earlier interview and appointment date if appropriate.
We are a mainly ageing congregation but lively, energetic and hard-working, faithfully serving through a long vacancy. We take good care of our churches; funds raised from coffee mornings, music quizzes, pie and pea suppers, barbeque nights and art exhibitions help maintain the physical fabric and bring our communities together.
Our current pattern of meeting for worship twice a month is supplemented by special services such as Easter day celebrations, harvest festivals, remembrance, All Soul’s, carol services, Christingles, and crib services. However, there is plenty of potential and room to discern where the Spirit of God might be leading us next.
As a benefice, we are open-minded, adaptable and welcoming, with a diverse set of skills and experiences. There are many willing volunteers who actively encourage others to join in church-led activities. We are looking for a priest who is kind, friendly, approachable, enthusiastic and inclusive. Someone who is a good listener and has the ability to communicate Christ’s message in a simple and effective way.
In the Diocese of York, the expectation is that a House for Duty role will minister for the equivalent of two days a week plus Sunday service. In reality, most people choose to exercise this in hours spread across the week rather than two fixed days but there is flexibility for the person appointed to shape the role as best suits in conversation with the lay leaders.
About Us
The Diocese of York, led and guided by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, takes in much of North and East Yorkshire. As the largest diocese in England, geographically, the area is very diverse, featuring a multitude of needs and opportunities. This includes the bustling urban centres of York, Hull and Middlesbrough, the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and the incomparable Yorkshire Coast; as well as areas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastal communities.
Our mission and ministry relies on thousands of people – lay and ordained, volunteer and paid. Our diocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission and ministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of church buildings, and safeguarding. Together, we are striving to be a people who are ‘Living Christ’s Story’. We want to be a simpler, bolder, humbler church which in its diversity reflects the communities it serves. We are bringing renewed focus and fresh energy to achieving our aims:
- Becoming more like Christ
- Reaching those we currently don’t
- Growing in discipleship, influence and numbers
- Transforming our finances and structures
