Introduction

Incumbent: St Barnabas, Clarksfield and Holy Trinity, Waterhead - Diocese of Manchester

The PCCs and Patron are seeking a prayerful, pastoral and collaborative priest to lead our churches into an exciting new chapter of growth, discipleship and community engagement.

We are looking for someone who will place the church at the heart of local life — nurturing faith within our congregations while reaching outward with warmth, compassion and vision.

We are seeking a priest who:

  • is deeply rooted in prayer and inspired to lead a church growing in numbers, faith and community impact
  • is committed to fostering a strong culture of safeguarding
  • has a passion for ministry among children, young people and families, both in schools and church life
  • can recognise, encourage and develop the gifts of people of all ages and backgrounds
  • is enthusiastic about enabling whole-life, lifelong discipleship
  • is comfortable leading a variety of worship styles, from traditional liturgy to fresh expressions
  • has experience building strong relationships within the wider community, including inter-faith engagement

This is a Crown appointment.

What we offer

You will receive a warm Christian welcome from churches committed to serving their communities through the Thrive Project, recipient of the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. Supported by dedicated congregations and Church Officers, our parishes have a strong history of working together and look forward to partnering with a new incumbent to grow both church and community life, while valuing the wellbeing, privacy and family life of our Vicar.

Following a review of clergy housing, it was decided that the vicarage at Clarksfield no longer meets the standards we wish to provide. The successful applicant will therefore initially be housed at The Vicarage, 1 Glebe Lane, Moorside, Oldham, OL1 4SJ, pending the purchase of a new benefice parsonage.

More details can be found in the parish profiles on the diocesan website under the Vacancies section.

Conversation about the post is welcomed. Please contact The Venerable Karen Smeeton, Archdeacon of Rochdale – karen.smeeton@manchester.anglican.org

Interviews will be held on Thursday 9th July

If you are a priest with a heart for prayer, people and mission, and a desire to help churches flourish in faith and community, we would love to hear from you.
