Introduction

We are currently seeking an Assistant Safeguarding Officer, to join our Safeguarding team in one of the most iconic buildings in the world, St Paul’s Cathedral.

Working closely with the Safeguarding Officer and the Diocese of London, you will play a vital role in embedding robust, up-to-date safeguarding practices throughout Cathedral life. This is a varied and impactful position, ensuring best practice across the Cathedral community.

As an integral member of the team, you will be responsible for:  

  • Delivering exceptional standards of safeguarding practice throughout the Cathedral. 
  • Overseeing case administration.
  • Record-keeping, database management, 
  • Contributing to progressive policy development, 
  • Coordinating comprehensive safeguarding training, 
  • Project work,
  • Provide initial safeguarding guidance to staff and volunteers, escalating concerns as needed under the Safeguarding Officer’s direction.

The successful applicant will have: 

  • Experience in safeguarding, welfare, social care, education, or youth work. 
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice for children and adults at risk. 
  • Ability to manage confidential records and sensitive information with integrity. 
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Clear, compassionate communication with staff, volunteers, and external partners. 
  • Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and work independently. 
  • High discretion and professionalism. 
  • Good IT skills (databases, Word, Excel, secure systems). 
  • Emotional resilience and calm under pressure.

The successful applicant will also be expected to share in St Paul’s Cathedral’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

There may be occasions when you provide support in the Safeguarding Officer’s absence. Flexibility is key to Cathedral life, and while some duties may fall outside standard hours, we recognise and value your commitment by offering time off in lieu to ensure a healthy work-life balance.
