Chaplain – Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities
Vacancy Reference cofe/TP/166/9991
Introduction
The Diocese of York is the Church of England between the Rivers Humber and Tees, and from the Yorkshire coast westwards to around the A1. We are seeking to Live Christ’s Story (LCS) by becoming more like Christ, reaching people we currently don’t, growing churches of missionary disciples, and transforming our finances and structures.
We are looking to appoint a Chaplain to the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) Communities. This voluntary, time‑limited post (initially for two years) offers a meaningful opportunity for an ordained person to support and deepen the Church’s ministry among communities who are too often marginalised and who frequently face prejudice, hostility and discrimination.
Across the diocese there is already excellent and committed work taking place with GRT communities. The Chaplain will help to strengthen, coordinate and raise the profile of this ministry—offering pastoral support, nurturing relationships, and encouraging good practice in mission and inclusion.
We are committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion and welcome applications from disabled candidates and those from UKME heritage as these groups are under-represented in our staff. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All employees are expected to share this commitment. You will be required to undertake safeguarding training, and this role will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
For any enquiries, please contact Gerald Fox, Racial Justice Adviser on 01904 699500 or email gerald.fox@yorkdiocese.org
Only fully completed applications through Pathways will be accepted. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
